Founded in 2012 Frontera Bugalú was pays homage to the hybrid music that could only have been created along the long border that stretches from Brownsville to El Paso. The sounds of “cumbia rebajada”, a style created by slowing down turntables on traditional Colombian cumbia records, started in Monterrey, Nuevo León and spread throughout Northern México, and the US Southwest including El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, where the band is based. Like a portal to the universe of cumbia, “rebajada” exposed them to many other styles in the genre.
Many years and records later, Frontera Bugalú, lead by button accordion, has developed their own unique cumbia style and contagious live set that sonically travles from region to region. Their lyrics narrate the stories of latinos in the US and across Latin America.
Over the past year, LA BUENA ONDA has worked with local femme, them, and Latine djs to bring rhythms of the African diaspora, regional favorites and contemporary sounds to Santa Fe.
