Town Hall: Threats to New Mexico’s Special Places

Thursday Nov 13, 2025 at 7:00 pm

National parks and other public lands help make New Mexico special. Millions of people visit our special places every year from the iconic places like Chaco Canyon and White Sands National Park to the unnamed trail in the closest national forest or desert.

Our public lands are facing challenges. We have seen proposals to sell off millions of acres of public lands and to open up protected areas for logging, mining and drilling. Also, thousands of federal public lands staff have left or been fired and there is not adequate funding to maintain our lands for the future.

But how can you separate truth from fiction? Which of these threats are being implemented and which are just speculative? Come to a town hall event hosted by Environment New Mexico and hear from our panel of experts about what’s really going on with our parks, monuments, forests, deserts and rivers.
