With the 2025 mayoral race underway, a new coalition of local organizations representing Santa Fe families, youth sports, and caregivers is hosting a Mayoral Forum on Parks and Making Santa Fe a City for Families. The forum will take place September 18, at Tumbleroot at 5:30pm, and will feature a focused dialogue with candidates on the future of parks, play, and policies that directly affect Santa Fe’s children and families.

This community-led forum is being organized by a new alliance of groups—including Northern Soccer Club, Mucho Soccer, Santa Fam, and Ninos and Neighbors PAC—who collectively represent the voices of more than 6,000 Santa Feans. Their goal is to bring urgent attention to how city leadership will support families through investments in public spaces and livability.

“We want to hear directly from the candidates how they plan to fund and maintain critical park and field projects, improve access, and prioritize kids and families in their vision for Santa Fe,” said Scott Hussion, a representative of the coalition. “This is about making sure our city’s future works for the people raising the next generation here.”

The forum will cover issues such as:

  • Long-term funding for parks, fields, maintenance
  • Economic security and childcare
  • Completing the expansion of the Municipal Recreation Complex (MRC)
  • Policies that support families and children in Santa Fe

About the Hosting Organizations:

  • Northern Soccer Club – Serving Northern New Mexico for over 50 years, Northern Soccer provides affordable youth soccer programs that prioritize access for all kids, regardless of skill level or financial background.

  • Mucho Soccer – A grassroots campaign advocating for full funding of the MRC expansion and ensuring Santa Fe has enough fields for all children to play and grow through sports.

  • Santa Fam – An award-winning platform and vibrant online community for parents and caregivers in Santa Fe, offering resources, events, and support for over 5,000 local families navigating parenthood in Northern New Mexico.

  • Ninos and Neighbors PAC – A new political action committee formed by local parents to bring a unified voice to Santa Fe’s elections and policy decisions, with a mission to make the city more livable for kids and families.

This forum is free and open to the public. Families, voters, and all community members who care about the future of Santa Fe’s children are encouraged to attend. Agenda will begin with a performance from Queen Bee Music Association and after the forum candidates are encouraged to stay and mingle with families.

Media are invited to cover the event. Candidate participation and moderator details to be announced.
