Trying Not to Have a Thought, out September 12 via Saddle Creek, isn’t just Algernon Cadwallader’s first album since 2011’s Parrot Flies, it’s their first with the original lineup since 2008’s Some Kind of Cadwallader. Shortly after that debut, drummer Nick Tazza and guitarist Colin Mahony departed; Algernon broke up in 2012 and stayed dormant until their feverishly anticipated 2022 reunion.

Channeling the spirit of the Grateful Dead in Northern New Mexico.
From the southern plains of Texas, Rattlesnake Milk summons the sound of the prairie, mimicking the howl of coyotes and the pulsing rhythm of a lonesome junk train. While farming cotton for a family friend, Lou Lewis found inspiration to record an eight-song demo listening to the classics played on KDAV 1590 AM in the empty flatlands of his hometown. Those demos paid homage to Lou's favorite Dust Bowl migrant songs and haunted melodic gems from the 50s and 60s.
COMING HOME: A Journey to the Heart of Americana artist Sam Bettens, the multi-platinum voice behind K's Choice, is embarking on a new chapter with COMING HOME, a deeply personal and authentic Country/Americana album. This is no mere genre shift; it's a homecoming, a culmination of life experiences poured into raw, honest songwriting. Hailing from Belgium, Bettens' journey has taken him through diverse landscapes, including a 15-year residency in East Tennessee, where he even served as a full-time firefighter. It's this lived experience, this immersion in the heart of Americana, that infuses his music with an old-school authenticity that feels effortless and genuine.
With curly tufts of a recognizable Jewfro peeking out from his omnipresent knit cap, Andy Frasco is a cross between John Belushi’s “Joliet” Jake Blues and Jimmy Buffett. He’s a band-fronting, songwriting party animal who turns into a swirling rock ‘n’ roll Tasmanian Devil onstage leading his U.N., not unlike Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. From switching instruments mid-song to Frasco stagediving into the crowd or kibitzing with them, an Andy Frasco & The U.N. show is a celebration of inclusivity and tolerance where “You do You” and “let us do us.”
Without doubt or qualification, The Sadies are one of this continent's greatest extant rock 'n' roll bands—just as they have been for the last quarter-century. Versatile and imaginative, they skip from astral psychedelia to shuffling bucolics and leap from puckish pop to righteous garage-rock without losing momentum or mastery. Their albums deliver masterclasses on pointed songwriting, lockstep harmonies, and a devil-may-care attitude to expectations and past successes. With their new album Colder Streams out now, check out what Shindig Magazine calls "a stone-cold masterpiece."
